Soft and Fluffy Naan Bread with Garlic Butter
Ingredients:
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/3 cup plain yogurt
- 1 large egg
- 2 1/2 to 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the olive oil, yogurt, and egg. Add the frothy yeast mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add 2 1/2 cups of flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring to combine. If the dough is too sticky, add up to 1/2 cup more flour until it comes together and is soft but not sticky.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten into a circle or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Heat a cast iron skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for 1-2 minutes on each side, or until puffed and lightly charred.
- Mix the melted butter with minced garlic. Brush the garlic butter over the hot naan and sprinkle with chopped cilantro.
