Classic Southern Caramel Cake

Ingredients

For the Cake:

  • 3 cups (360 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened and cubed
  • 2 cups (396 grams) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk

For the Frosting:

  • 1 1/2 cups (360 grams) light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 grams) dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup  (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened and cubed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
