- 1 lb yellow onion
- 1-2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp coarse salt
- 1/2 tsp white granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp butter optional
- 2-4 tbsp deglazing liquid such as water, broth, or white wine if needed
