½ teaspoon ground white pepper

⅛ teaspoon crushed red pepper

6 cups low sodium chicken broth

2 tablespoons brown sugar

3 (15.5) ounce cans white beans rinsed and drained

2 bay leaves

1 ¼ – 1 ½ lb bone in ham steak
