Quick and savory stir-fried tender meat with crisp cabbage in garlic sauce – a perfect weeknight dinner


Ingredients

1 lb tender meat (beef sirloin, flank, or pork tenderloin), thinly sliced

½ medium green cabbage (about 45 cups), chopped into bite-size pieces

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 small fresh chili (optional), sliced

2 Tbsp vegetable oil (or other high-heat oil)

2 Tbsp light soy sauce (or low sodium)

1 Tbsp oyster sauce (optional)

1 tsp sugar or brown sugar

1 tsp rice vinegar or splash of black vinegar (optional)

Salt & pepper to taste

Optional garnish: green onions, toasted sesame seeds


Instructions

  1. Marinate meat slices with a little soy sauce and pepper; set aside.
  2. Heat wok or large skillet over high heat; add oil. Once hot, stir-fry meat until just browned; remove from pan.
  3. Add more oil if needed; add garlic (and chili if using); stir until fragrant (about 20-30 seconds).
  4. Add cabbage; stir quickly for 2-3 minutes, allowing it to wilt slightly but stay crisp.
  5. Return meat to pan. Add soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sugar, and vinegar. Toss everything so it’s well coated. Adjust seasoning.
  6. Garnish and serve immediately.

Notes

Adjust heat by adding more chili or omitting it for mild taste.
Use Napa cabbage if you prefer softer texture.
Ensure cabbage is well-drained so dish isn’t watery.
Leftovers stored in fridge up to 3 days; reheat in skillet.
